LOCHSIDE SAILING CLUB
WINTER NEWSLETTER

Andrew Riddell

Dear Member,

A newsletter will be distributed later in the spring giving the seasons proposed sailing programme and other information from the AGM held last November, however in this letter we will mention some of the Chairmans concerns expressed at that meeting and news of the close season.

Last season had been a considerable success with a new rescue boat being obtained, the 24 hour event going ahead despite poor weather, and our own programme of 'races' which was centred on the increasing number of Lasers and a few Mirror dinghies. There was also a large number of newmembers to the Club, with many being introduced by existing members. Yet, despite this, the year had seen the general conduct of some members and their families requiring the committee's attention. This, together with equipment 'being borrowed' and not returned to the rightful owner had helped to detract from all the earlier positive contributions. The Chairman urged members to show more respect for other people's property and that belonging to the Club. Keeping the premises locked, no matter how inconven1ent, it is hoped would become the done thing.

The fore-shore has been greatly improved with a barrier of tyres and with recent bad weather, its presence, will have prevented further erosion and enable infill to help 1evel the dinghy park. Late November saw the 'knock-out' enjoyed by three teams' of six. Although conditions were not ideal, with thick fog and little wind, members made the most by improvising with anything which helped the boats go a bit quicker. The following week we held our first social evening, which proved to be such a success, a similiar evening will be repeated on April 20th at 7.30pm.

Apart from the afore-mentioned tyre barrier, little work has taken place ,however that will change, shortly with improvements to the club-house continuing. Elsewhere when infill material becomes available, members assistance will be expected.
Yet its not all work, for we hope to invite a 'top sailor' in Mid-Spring to give a talk on improving your sailing and on racing tactics for those who feel they require guidance.

Our Opening regatta will take place on Sunday 28th April at 1.OOpm. Subsequent dates will be shown in the Clubhouse. Tuesday Evenings begin 7th May at 7:30pm and continue each week until August.

The next newsletter will be in April, by which time it is to be hoped that all fees have been paid, and members are asked to contribute towards its content by sending articles, suggestion, drawing etc. to the Secy.

Finally I have to report that Tom Dromgoole has announced his resignation following a recent committee meeting. Under his leadership in 1990. the club improved its image and facilities.

Our new 'Chairman' will be Meg Kirk, who will be familiar to most members.
