|
|
Welcome to the 1995 sailing season. First the bad news, this year's subscriptions are now due. There has been no increase in the fees this year and accordingly the scale is as follows.
The entrance fee is payable by all new members or members renewing after an absence who join between the opening and closing regattas. Honorary memberships will be renewed automatically.
The Club now has both Secretary and Treasurer. To reduce the administration please send your fees directly to the Treasurer, Frank Connor at the address given below. To ensure that the membership list is kept up to date please include your current address and telephone number. Don't forget to provide details of your third party insurance. Roval Yachting AssociationThere was a lengthy discussion at the A G.M. on the merits or otherwise of remaining affiliated to the R Y.A. After hearing all the views aired, the committee has decided to rejoin this season but to monitor carefully any advantages derived from the expense. |
RacingAlan Cooper will continue to run the racing in 1995. The opening regatta will be held on the 23 April. It has been the practice recently to delay the May regatta to leave the holiday weekend free. This year there is an extra holiday to celebrate the 5Oth anniversary of .V.E. Day. Consequently the May meeting will not be held until the 14th. The remaining regattas will be held on the first Sunday of each month until the closing regatta on Sunday 1 October. Weekday racing has been returned to a Tuesday night following discussion at the AGM. The first evening will be Tuesday 18 April and racing will continue every Tuesday until 12 September. EventsA weekend event is planned for the 12/13 August. Details will be announced at a later date but the format is likely to be similar to those of the last two or three years. Three weekends away are proposed as usual. The first has been booked for Friday 28 April to Monday 1 May at our traditional Arisaig venue. Two further weekends are under discussion at the moment, one at the Glasgow Fair and the other at the September Weekend. One will probably be a return to Arisaig with the other somewhere new. |
We have begun to outgrow our old perennial, Creran Moorings at Appin. The accommodation is becoming a little long in the tooth and now that people have more sea sailing experience the long haul out of Loch Creran for Loch .Linnhe is less enticing. Our current favourite, Invercaimbe by Arisaig, is a scenic spot with sandy beaches and sailing trips of all lengths. The caravan site is tucked into a wide bay, sheltered by a band of the dreaded Arisaig rocks! Parts of this bay and several others nearby are suitable for windsurfers. The weather has been generally kind to us there in May and there are usually good winds of favourable direction. The situation must be amongst the most impressive in the Western Highlands. For SaleGordon Clingan has decided to sell his blue Beaufort. He also has a pram dinghy and various other bits and pieces, including oars and an Anzani outboard engine. Please contact John Green on {tel number} for details. RepairsThe editor has recently had good service from Alec Hodge of Cardross who will undertake fibreglass repairs. If you have trouble locating a workshop give Alec a ring on {tel Number} |
