LOCHSIDE SAILING CLUB APRIL NEWSLETTER

Andrew Riddell
Dear Member,
We have to begin this Newsletter by mentioning that, during February and March,on no fewer than three separate occasions the Club-house was found to have had unwanted guests. You will note that the term 'break-in' or vandalism has not been used for there were no apparent signs of a 'break-in'. Unfortunately, the committee have concluded that for whatever reason,a member, past or present, has been responsible for these ntrusions. We can now only hope that they are feeling content with themselves and such incidents will stop. Also about this time,a padlock from the gate went missing and whilst we realise the inconvenience of changing the locks, nevertheless, this will be necessary. Keys will be available on the evening of Saturday 20th April, there-after only on Sundays and Tuesday evenings, provided the old gate key is returned. Key colour red. The committee fear that during this time members may have had their belongings removed or dumped into the loch. Members are urged to ensure. all their equipment is safe.
We can now turn our minds to more positive aspects and confirm our season begins with an 'informal supper' on Saturday 20th April at 7.30pm. Cost £1.50 per person. A week on Sunday, the 28th at 1.00pm our sailing starts with the Opening Regatta, consisting of two races. Still on a positive theme the ladies changing room has been greatly improved during the winter months, together with the fitting out of the spar shed.

Members are no doubt anxious to see that the Club and its facilities are properly looked after without the need for notices being placed all around the premises. This information has been compiled to assist members, old and new, in their use of Lochside Sailing Club and to let members know what is expected of them on entering and leaving the Club.
Most members will have 2 keys and we are in the process of having keys colour coded:- Green -Gates / Blue - Clubhouse / Yellow -Ladies room (where appicable).
- GREEN KEY:
- operates both padlocks on the gate, particularly important when leaving the Club.
- BLUE KEY:
- allows access to the Clubhouse via the right-hand exterior door, together with the single door to the main room.
In order that the gate may be locked from the inside when using the club,a chain has been fitted to the gate. Please use this to lock the gate after you have entered. If on leaving, other members are present then, again, use this method, however in the event you are last to leave use the gate fitting at all times.
The remaining exterior door will only open from the inside by unlocking and then pulling the slip bolts at each top corner. When leaving the Club ensure interior door is double locked and the outer doors are properly shut at the corners then lock and re-check, including the slip bolts.

Use of Club-house
On entering the room, please record your name, date and time of arrival. In addition use this book to note anything that does not seem right:- lights left on,showers not switched off, premises unlocked etc. Please note that there is no smoking in the changing rooms and spar shed. The steel shutter in front of the window has again been fitted with a key if you wish to open it (remember to lock the shutter if you are last to leave).
- ELECTRICITY:-
- The main switch should always be left on, however in the event of an accident, the mains is located to the left of the inside door, beside the fire extinguisher.
Exterior lighting has been fitted to the front of the building above the main doors. Activated by an infra red beam during darkness, will remain for a few minutes, if interrupted. It is planned to extend the lighting to the remainder of the building.
- WATER :-
- in an emergency you will find the main supply in the mens room.
During winter months remember to turn off the water to minimise any possible damage by burst pipes.
General Cleanliness
Mops, squeegees are all provided and a quick wipe should be given to the floor on leaving. A floor drain is to be found in the main room

All materials can be found in the cupboard under the sink or in the apar shed.
- DO NOT LEAVE
- showers, sinks and toilets to degenerate into a filthy state and harbour stale sme11s and germs.
- DO NOT LEAVE
- full bins. Bin bags can be placed inside the gate ready for disposal.
Why not take a few minutes durin your visit it order to help keep your premises clean and tidy, rather than have the same faces doing all the work, or being asked to assist. Record your departure time end finally check all appliances are pulled out and switched-off, and all premises are secure, including the two out-buildings. Keys to these units to be found on the notice-board.
A little effort from all members can make for a more enjoyable and conducive atmosphere at Lochside Sailing Club.
Regatta programme for 1991
This year we are dividing the category of boats, and it is hoped sail-boards, that participate in our Monthly regattas, as usual consisting of two races.
These will be
| Class |
| 1 | Handicaap fleet (Mirror, Topper, Enterprise, Lark,Beaufort etc). |
| 2 | Lasers |
| 3 | Sail-boards |
Our aim that by separating the so called 'faster boats' more members will feel that they are being catered for and take part. Regardless of the numbers taking part a result will be recorded.
The committee are going to considerable efforts to encourage more members to attend the Club. Please support them.
In order that a fair and balanced race programme can be enjoyed by all, members taking part will be placed on 'officer of the day, race officer', whatever, rota. Two members will officiate for ONE race only and hand over to a second pair for the following race. All necessary information will be provided.
Despite the terrible weather during last years 24 hour event, we plan a similar event on the 22/23rd June, and later in the year a 'Knock-out'.
